About Us:

SAVF Lichthuis Tehuis, established on May 26, 1962, currently provides a caring and supportive home for up to 96 residents. Our facility includes a sick bay, frail care unit, dementia/support unit, and luxurious rooms for the elderly. Residents enjoy three balanced meals daily in our dining room, along with scheduled tea times. Our in-house social worker actively assists with daily activities and the celebration of special occasions. Lichthuis Tehuis is dedicated to delivering quality care to frail and elderly individuals of all genders and races, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

FACILITY OVERVIEW:

Our facility features a semi-frail care unit with eight single bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining room, lounge, and kitchen, all surrounded by a relaxing garden. Additionally, our frail care unit offers a dedicated emergency room to assist residents in the housing scheme or occupation flats during their recovery from operations. This unit comprises ten double bedrooms, eight single rooms, and six-bed rooms. Our combined dining room serves daily meals, including room service when needed. A professional nurse, along with staff nurses and care workers, is available around the clock to provide exceptional care. Our services encompass professional care, nappy changes, pressure care, resident feeding, wound care, and medication administration. Residents also benefit from daily stimulation activities, religious gatherings, music therapy, movies, puzzle building, and Bingo, among other recreational offerings. We provide additional services such as nail care, hearing aid support, and access to a library, ensuring a well-rounded and supportive environment for our residents.

OUR HISTORY

SAVF Môreglans, the first old age home in SAVF, opened its doors on 16 June 1910 in Krugersdorp with four residents. Over the years, we have grown to accommodate 120 residents, offering a range of options from self-dependence to assisted living and Alzheimer’s/dementia care. Additionally, we provide day care and temporary accommodation for those in need.

Our nursing staff conducts weekly case studies involving different residents. Interaction and community are integral to our approach, with residents’ committees, meetings, church services, social events, and cultural learning opportunities. We offer transport services to the Spar/Mall, conduct interviews and assessments for potential admissions, and provide orientation for new residents while completing Individual Development Plans (IDPs). Our therapeutic engagement encompasses individual and group counseling, family/relative counseling, and active aging activities. Our mission is to manage and maintain comprehensive 24-hour quality care for 140 frail aged individuals in Group 3 and to offer quality assisted living in 27 flats for 44 older persons in the greater Boksburg area. SAVF Rusoord was established in 1960, with expansions in 1980, including the introduction of Life Rights units. Visionary leaders, Miss Eileen Funston and Grace McKenzie, embarked on a mission to establish an old age home. In September 1971, Eventide Home opened its doors. Initially, frail residents were transferred to Ladysmith as their care needs increased.

In July 1983, members of the Dundee and District Care Homes for the Aged Trust merged with Eventide, forming an umbrella organization known as Dundee Aged Care. Over the years, Dundee Aged Care has expanded significantly, offering a variety of care levels.

In 2010/2011, due to financial concerns and dwindling government subsidies, a decision was made to seek the expertise of SAVF to ensure the continued provision of exceptional care and services. Today, we continue to honor the legacy of our founders while adapting to meet the evolving needs of our community.
